Watch that first step - it's a doozie!
That, as you almost certainly know, is a line from Ground Hog day, one of my favourite films.
In a way, it's a strange choice for a quote. My first thought was a comment on what it's like to decide unequivocally on your next career choice, as I have. But, the warning in the film comes as Bill Murray's character has already slipped. The point being that often you are already well into the cold wet water of reality before you realise that you've made that fateful step.
So, in reality, I decided sometime ago. But now, now, it is becoming real. Products are being planned and made that I hope to sell.
This is both exciting and frightening. Especially because I don't intend to make what is already being made by others - they can all make better than me!
So, the first step, is not only a step into a new world, but also down a path not well travelled.
..and I have already gathered some fellow travellers to join me on the journey. That in a way makes the journey more frightening, and less so.
So, why all this reflection?
Because, as I reach the end of my college course I know I have started on a new journey. With fear, and excitement.
Perhaps the quote should be from The Hobbit "It's a dangerous business, going out your front door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you will end up".
Just when did I start this path, and where exactly am I now? Neither will ever really be that clear!
